Discovering the mind

How cognition works and the impact of music

Music & rhythm

Playing a musical instrument could have benefits on general cognitive capacities

Similarly, we are surrounded by rhythms and periodic events that could influence attention and performance

Attention

A current challenge is to unravel how attention works and how it can be enhanced

A key aspect of attention is the ability to sustain it over time, which can be modified with interventions such as cognitive training and tDCS

Social cognition

Social stimuli can be perceived as objects of a different category

Experimental psychology and neuroimaging are discovering the cognitive and brain mechanisms that underlie that unique processing

Meta-science

Science is built from the accumulation of new evidence and ideas

The process of generating knowledge can improve from reflection on its biases and modern issues

Research in leading centers

Cognitive science at the University of Granada

I develop my research activity at the Mind, Brain, and Behaviour Research Center (CIMCYC) and the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Granada

In addition, I maintain close collaborations with international institutions of reference in the field of cognitive sciences, such as the McMaster Institute for Music & the Mind (MIMM) and the Department of General Psychology of the University of Padova

About CIMCYC
An interconnected mind

Research on multiple aspects of cognition

I participate in a wide range of lines that delve into the functioning of mental aspects such as music, attention, and the neural processing of social situations

Projects
Disseminating knowledge

Multiple actions to transfer the findings in the laboratory to society
